Your 8 month old puppy sees chase as a game, and running around the house trying to grab your pup will only reinforce this behavior. This can combat all of the hard work you have put in with the come command. Instead, find something your baby really wants and offer it as a trade. Toys and chews work well… bacon works better.
Maltese puppy chews his toys at me feet. You know you own a puppy when your upholstery has more holes than Swiss cheese and your new line of Tupperware containers has become your pup's favorite set of chew toys. You can't blame him, though; most likely Dogzilla is teething and he's simply looking for a way to get relief from those sore, irritated. Washing your dog’s feet with regularity is a great habit to get into as it will help combat the risk of fungal infections, and afterward, you could spray something non-toxic but bitter-tasting (lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, for example) to deter the otherwise-appealing notion of licking away at the fur on the foot! When the puppy begins to chew on you, or something else that is off limits, remove the "bad" item and replace it with a toy that your puppy can associate with being acceptable to chew on. Each time the pup chews on a bad item, immediately removing it and rewarding them with a good chew item should eliminate the poor biting and chewing behavior. Once your puppy can play tug safely, keep tug toys in your pocket or have them easily accessible. If he starts to mouth you, you can immediately redirect him to the tug toy. Ideally, he’ll start to anticipate and look for a toy when he feels like mouthing. If your puppy bites at your feet and ankles, carry his favorite tug toy in your pocket.
What you can do is direct is chewing to something else. Give him some of thos flavored bones, also Kongs work good. You can put treats in them or put peanut butter and they work really hard to get the treat out. When he is chewing on his toys or his bone praise him, and make him know which toys are his, or he might think everything is his toy. Normal paw licking is only occasional and usually can be related to the feet being wet or dirty. Inhalant allergies, also known as Atopy (like hay fever for humans) are the number one cause of repeated paw licking, nail biting and itching of the skin, especially the feet and toes. Dogs then lick the feet and bite their nails because of the itching. A nipping puppy can just be a playful puppy, but after 15 weeks, your puppy should not try to touch your skin with his teeth. If he continues to try to nip or bite you after that time, you need to use training to stop that behavior . My husband and I adopted a mixed breed puppy (possibly BC mixed with Boston Terrier and a little bit of Eskimo), Theo, about 3 weeks ago. Theo is 11 weeks old. As he is a puppy, he gets mouthy and nippy often. It just seems that no matter what I do, he won't calm down and stop. Theo likes to try...
Puppy biting can become a problem behavior if not nipped in the bud. Teaching bite inhibition, offering chew toys, and training are all ways to curb biting. My Fozzie chews his paws too. It's really too bad because then his paw fur turns red just like his eyes. It looks like he has shoes on. Anyways, it's probably best that you take him to see a vet because it is possibly something he is allergic to. I changed my little ones food to Iams lamb and rice and he seems to be okay now. my 2 year old male lab chooses to chew his bones and toys on me. if i'm sitting on my couch or on the floor my dog will go get a toy out of his basket bring it over to me, drop it on my lap and start to chew with just his head and chew toy resting on my lap (if im on the couch) or with his front paws resting across my lap or legs and the toy in my lap (if i'm on the floor). i'm pretty sure. As anyone who has been anywhere near a teething baby can tell you, the process of growing new teeth is not fun. Painful gums, drooling, and of course, chewing, biting and nipping are all signs that your puppy has his big boy teeth coming in. Providing your pup with chew toys and training him to avoid gnawing on furniture or feet will go a long way to help mitigate the biting as well as sooth.

Chewing rocks, on the other hand, is a habit that should be prevented. Not only is this destructive to your puppy's teeth but it also presents a danger of choking. If your puppy is teething and has an intense desire to chew, provide him with pet-safe chew toys. Ask your veterinarian for options. Watching your puppy whirl around to chase that odd appendage attached to his bum can indeed be quite a hilarious performance, especially when he falls to the ground with his tail in his mouth, but it starts to get a bit old though if your puppy becomes fixated and does it all the time. Lily Chews Feet too! Thank you for all the advice. My 5 yr. old darlin’ chews her feet constantly. She has had skin allergy problems in the past treated with Prednisone–sparingly. Am going to ask my Vet about the Temeril–I think that was the name–for over production of yeast in her system. Thanks you again and it is sure worth a try.
